At the Raymond & Ruth D. Laven Early Childhood Center, we nurture each child in a loving environment that promotes his or her social, emotional and intellectual well-being. Through developmentally-appropriate activities, we encourage individualization and incorporate Jewish values and traditions. We believe our Center is an important first step in each child's lifelong learning experience!

Early Childhood Programs

Babysitting

Age: 8 weeks and Up
Schedule: M-F, 9:15AM-1PM
Cost: $7/hr

Parents are able to use this service up to 2 hours a day, 2 days a week and can create a weekly schedule, which can be paid on a month to month basis. Depending on the number of children in the program at any particular time, drop in babysitting is allowed.

Infant Daycare
Age: Two months old
Schedule: M-Th, 7AM-6PM: F till 5PM
Offered: Year Round
We will provide infant daycare for babies. A maximum of eight infants will be accepted in this program which will provide individualized care. Two staff members will maintain extensive communications between the Center and the home, including daily reports.

Daycare
Age: 1 to 4 years old
Schedule: M-Th, 7AM-6PM: F till 5PM
Offered: September-June or Year-Round
Daycare children enjoy music, creative arts, gross and fine motor games, quiet time, dancing, outside play twice a day, snack and more. Parents receive daily reports. Three or four year olds also take swimming classes and go on field trips.

Rompers
Age: 2 by December
Schedule: T, Th, 9:30AM-1PM: M,W,F, 9:30AM-1PM or M-F, 9:30AM-1PM
Offered: September-June
If your child is a terrific two, our Rompers is the place for you! With story time, creative arts, movement games, music, social interaction, inside/outside party play and special events, our toddlers spread their wings, in what is often their first "out of home" environment.

Nursery
Age: 3 or 4 by December
Schedule: M, W, F, 9:30AM-1PM or M-F, 9:30AM-1PM
Offered: September-June
What if your child is three of four? Well then we have gym, games, and more! In our program, you'll find music, creative arts, gross and fine motor games, dancing, circle time-sharing, storytelling and field trips. All three and four year olds have swimming as part of their regular program. Weekly themes, which include Jewish holidays, community helpers, shapes, colors and zoo animals, help enrich the children's day.

Morning Munchkins
Schedule: (8:00AM-9:30AM)
This is an early drop-off program for half-day three and four year old classes. Romela Sood is the teacher for this program. Romela has a variety of table toys, manipulatives, crayons, markers, etc., and the block or kitchen area is open as well. The cost is $9 per day or $40 per week.

Afternoon Playpals
Schedule: (1:00PM-2:30PM)
This is a late pick-up program also for the half-day three and four year old classes. Jane Stein is the teacher for this program. She has a variety of table toys, manipulatives, crayons, markers, etc., and the block or kitchen area is open as well. A snack and storytelling time are included. The cost is $9 per day or $40 per week.

Kindergarten
Age: 5 by December 1st
Schedule: M-F, 9AM-1PM
Offered: Sept-June
Our Core Academic Curriculum includes a whole language approach to reading with a strong emphasis on phonics, an activity-based approach to developing math concepts, an in-house designed science program which focuses on the five senses, nutrition and ecology, and a social studies curriculum which emphasizes community. The program's comprehensive curriculum provides the children with the opportunity to explore their world through music, creative movement, field trips, swimming instruction, instructional gymnasium time, and arts and crafts. Our program is certified by the N.Y.S. Department of Education.

Kindercenter
Age: 5 by December 1st
Schedule: M-Th until 6PM, F 'til 5PM
Offered: Sept-June
Kindercenter is open to children enrolled in morning Kindergartens throughout the Capital District. Recognizing that getting along with others is a vital part of becoming an independent individual, our program fosters learning and cooperation. Children enjoy weekly swimming lessons, and scheduled free swim. Children can also participate in enrichment classes, which include arts and crafts, cooking, science, and computers. Transportation to Kindercenter from area Kindergartens is provided, dependent upon enrollment. In addition, we offer special vacation camp days when Albany Public Schools do not hold morning Kindergarten.
